Matters of the heart – The Heart of God
This past Sunday we began a new series called “Matters of the Heart” where we will be focusing on our relationships with God, family and friends, church, and our community. Our foundational Scripture was Proverbs 4:23 NIV, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Our pastor reminded us that the Bible tells us that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. He said that if we talk long enough, we’ll say how we really feel. Thus, we must learn to practice restraint, even if it means we must shut up.
There are 4 chambers of the heart of God:
- The humble heart
- The believing heart
- The loving heart
- The obedient heart
From our second text, Matthew 6:31-33 KJV, we learn that those who have the heart of God will seek Him first. Pastor Denny told us we will have chaos in every area we leave God out. We must acknowledge God in all our ways so He can direct our paths. When we do so, we can even expect God to provide shortcuts. Pastor Denny said that we must give our all to God and not just offer Him pieces. Our pastor said that it’s possible to prophesy and cast out demons and still not have Jesus. Our hearts must be right.
Pastor Denny concluded with 1 Samuel 13:13 NLT, where the Prophet Samuel tells disobedient King Saul that he is being replaced as king by one after God’s heart. Pastor Denny encouraged us to stop looking at outward appearances. God is looking for someone who has his DNA. God is tired of actors. He wants those who will do right. He wants those who know they need Him not those who know how to perform. Confessing our need for Jesus brings freedom, and whom the Son sets free is free indeed.
